MEDIA SERVER

KEY: Media Server

A media server is a computer-based playback solution that responds to external control protocols to output computer display data or moving or still images. Generally, at least one of the graphic card outputs can be sent to a projector other output device. Some media servers are software only and can run on any computer that fulfills the manufacturer's specifications. Playback quality, resolution and the number of available outputs are reliant on powerful processors (CPUs), Graphic Cards (GPU) and the type and number of internal hard drives dedicated to media playback.  Media servers often come as a software and propriety hardware solution. Some media servers can be programmed without an external console, usually within a dedicated timeline interface. These systems (software and hardware combined) support a large number of tools and effects that aid the design process.
