Helgi Tomasson's re-imagined production of Swan Lake at SF Ballet. Bold projected images integrated tightly with opulent set pieces. The famous transformation from princess to swan was realized with the use of projection. The idea was to have the dancer playing Odette flee from the sorcerer and run off stage only to be caught when she reappears (running) behind the curtain. A light would seemingly silhuette her and thus reveal her to the audience and sorcerer. As the spell is cast the silhuetted princess turns into a swan. All that was realised using front projection that is intended to resemble lighting from upstage which casts the shadow of the dancer.
